The military is rather interesting at times.  For example, I am currently on a temporary duty assignment (TDY) to Florida.  Since they do not have room for us to stay on base, we are staying off base, right on the beach.  The hotel bill is enough to make me very thankful the Air Force is paying for the trip.  On top of that, I have a rental car, so my travel card bill will be significantly larger than that of my team members.

Not that I am complaining about being in Florida for a few days.  I enjoyed a nice walk on the beach yesterday.  I saw lots of fish dancing with the beach the same way I was dancing with the waves.  I saw children with their parents.  Some of the children were experiencing the beach, and maybe even water, for the first time.  I saw a small dog barking at the waves.  The hotel we are staying at has a nice garden in the courtyard.  There is also a lot of fountains in the area.  I like fountains a lot, so I'm enjoying seeing all of them.

We are going to be staying there at least one night longer than originally planned.  I am not really complaining, though I would like to get back to Oklahoma.  One of my team members has leave planned that is scheduled to start Wednesday.  I hope we can get back before she starts her leave.  Otherwise, she might lose quite a bit of money.  She told me she had plane tickets for flights on Thursday.

This TDY has reminded me of how small the Air Force is at times.  I met one guy who used to be stationed in Oklahoma.  Another is PCSing (Permanent Change of Station) to Oklahoma in a couple months.  He will be going to our MWD (Military Working Dog) section.  One guy was deployed with several people I know in Oklahoma.  Yet another guy had just PCS'd to Florida from my first base in England.  He got there after I left, but he was on the same flight, so we knew a lot of the same people.  It was a very interesting night, and this has been a very interesting TDY.  I am now glad I agreed to have my name submitted for TDYs this month.

I am an Air Force veteran. I served as a Security Forces troop for nearly seven years and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant before separating in 2008. My tours of duty were in England and Oklahoma. I live in the Seattle area, which is where I grew up. I used my GI Bill and earned a degree from the University of Washington. I currently work in downtown Seattle and experience all the adventure that comes with that.
