I cannot remember the last time I had a maple donut before tonight.  I happened to see them at the grocery store and decided to buy a box.  They were my favorite growing up.  Yum.

Anyway, things have been rather interesting around here lately, and not just because of the weather conditions outside.

A friend of mine announced somewhat unexpectedly that he had remarried.  I say somewhat, because he had moved in with his girlfriend recently, but he had not said anything about plans to marry.  I have heard a couple different stories about how long he planned to wait for the wedding.  Rob commented when he found out about the marriage that he had originally been told the marriage would be years down the road.  I was told they had originally planned it for mid-April.  It does not really matter, though, I suppose.  I have hopes this marriage will go far better for my friend than his previous, especially since there are kids involved in this one.  My friend is now the stepfather of two small children, one who already calls him 'Dad'.  I wish him and his new family happiness and joy, and I hope any problems or disagreements that do arise are resolved quickly and without harsh words.

This same friend had his car egged back in October.  We assumed at the time that his ex-wife had done it.  He had recently told her off, plus the lipstick and handwriting seemed familiar to him.  Turns out, it was actually his girlfriend (now wife) playing a drunken prank that she did not realize would be costly.  She eventually confessed to the offense, among other things, after an evening of drinking.  While this raised my eyebrows a bit, it seems my friend has already resolved the issue with her, though I still sensed some irritation over it.  I wonder if it will surface down the road.

I met his new wife this past weekend.  I was invited out to dinner with coffee afterward.  It was a pleasant evening, and I walked away from it with a better overall impression of my friend's new wife.  I do not know her well, yet, but she seems like a decent person.  I hope to be able to hang out with her again.  Until I get to know her more, I will reserve judgment.
