Earlier, I decided to check the local news online.  As I did, I felt a pit almost immediately form in my gut.  There are wildfires not too far from where I live.  The fires have already destroyed numerous structures, too.  I feel bad for the people who were evacuated and have not been allowed to go back and see if their homes still stand.

It tends to get rather dry this time of year, so conditions were good for this type of incident.  Add in the high winds today, and things can get out of control fairly quickly.  I am listening to my neighbors' wind chimes and the drain pipe, which was blown loose earlier this week and has been scraping at the corner of my apartment building.  An interesting combination of noise for this time in the evening, and my cats are ignoring it completely.  The high winds also caused the power to blip at some point this afternoon.  I am not sure when or for how long, because I was sleeping.

Needless to say, I will be keeping tabs on the local news more closely over the next couple of days.
