For the Birds

Steller's Jay 2
Crow 1

I wandered into the kitchen a couple days ago for reasons that escape my memory and found one of the Steller's Jays that have been hanging around the house just a couple feet from the kitchen window.  Of course, by the time I thought to get the camera, the bird had flown away into the apple tree.  It did sit still long enough for me to get three photos of it, though.  I am somewhat thankful the tree's flowers have not bloomed yet, although it would have been a welcome challenge trying to get a good picture of the Jay among all the blooming flowers.

My comfort area in photography is stationary objects, obviously.  They are easier to catch.  However, I am trying to challenge myself with the moving animals that live in and around the yards.

Normally, I do not care much for crows, but I really liked how this second picture turned out for some reason.  I had hoped to get some of the smaller birds that like to hop around our front yard, but they were not showing themselves the other day.  Maybe next time.  We have a bird feeder in the back yard.  I have no idea how long it has been since it was last filled, but I am considering filling it up and enjoying the happiness of the birds and the ingenuity of the squirrels.
