New Dishwasher and Leaks

So, last week our dishwasher died after 15 years of faithful service.  Dad went to turn it on and it made a weird noise and stopped.  I finally had Dad turn it off after I smelled the motor heating up.  So, this last weekend, my parents went to Best Buy and bought a new dishwasher.

The guy came out and installed it Wednesday.  He was supposed to be out sometime between 1000 and 1300.  He finally called around 1330 and told me he was running behind schedule and hoped to be out by 1600.  Dad got home around 1730 and called the guy.  He must have been just turning onto our street when Dad called, because he pulled into our driveway right after Dad got off the phone.

The guy’s outfit was a mess.  It appeared that he had at least one major plumbing disaster earlier in the day.  I imagine he was relieved that our dishwasher installation went without incident.

Today, I look up from my needlework to see a truck from the water department park in front of my neighbor’s house.  He walks over to our water meter and starts tinkering there.  I was thinking he was about to turn the water off because Dad neglected to make payment arrangements, so I went outside to talk to him.  I honestly think my thought would be easier to deal with.

The guy said he had noticed an unusual amount of water consumption from our house.  Was anything running at the moment? No, but I would double check.  Nothing.  That meant there was likely a leak in the line.  Great.  I called Dad.  With his assistance, I was able to pinpoint the area of the leak.  It is at the front corner of the house, right outside our den.  I am grateful it is there and does not appear to be under or inside the house.  I am hoping that means it will be an easy fix.  We shall see.

For now, I am knocking on wood every few minutes in hopes that nothing else happens.  It has been rather frustrating.
