Daily Prompt: Right to Health

Is access to medical care something that governments should provide, or is it better left to the private sector? Are there drawbacks to your choice?

If the healthcare system were not so screwed up, then yes, it would be better in the private sector.  However, it is too screwed up there, so the government needs to step in.  People should not have to worry about not being able to get coverage because they are sick.  People should be able to get adequate care so they do not needlessly suffer.  So, yes, I think on some level the government should step in if needed.  And it is needed.  There are always drawbacks to a position, but some have worse drawbacks than others.

  1. No one should suffer just because they don’t have money or assets. Health care is a basic human right.
