Three Teeth on a Saturday

So, to backtrack a little, the older of my brothers has been having dental issues for some time now.  Most recently, it has been an infection of at least one tooth that has sent him to emergency rooms and trying to find a clinic that will help him despite his lack of insurance and unemployment.  He has found one that would help, but he has had to jump through hoops and wait and wait and wait for them to get around to seeing him.  If anyone has ever had an infection of the mouth, then one can easily imagine how hard that waiting is.

Last weekend, I noted a local news site had a story about a dental clinic in the area that was offering free care yesterday, as part of a national day of service.  Four dentists from around the region would be offering free dental care for those who could not afford regular or emergency care.  I forwarded the story to my brother and suggested he look into it.  He did.  He went down yesterday.

I have no idea how many other people showed up, but he likely had some sort of priority due to pain and infection.  They ended up extracting three teeth.  Two had abscessed and one would have required a root canal to fix.  I have only had one tooth that required a root canal, and the pain was excruciating, so I can only imagine how much pain two abscessed teeth would have caused.  My brother is on antibiotics to clear the infection and pain killers, but said that he was feeling better with the teeth out.  His job now is to get better so he can enjoy the ham we will be having for Easter next week.  I am glad he was able to get help there, and am grateful to the dentists who provided that service.
