Daily Prompt: Feed Your Senses

Write down the first sight, sound, smell, and sensation you experienced on waking up today. Pick the one you’re most drawn to, and write.

Sight:  My phone, or a cat.

Touch:  My phone.

Sound:  The alarm on my phone.

Smell:  The cat sitting next to my head.

Taste:  The parfait I had for breakfast.

So, when the alarm on my phone went off this morning, it interrupted a dream.  I have no recollection what the dream was about, but I do remember that it tried to incorporate the sound of the alarm.  Fortunately, my subconscious was not successful this time.  It is successful about once a year.  I wake up late and realize I have somehow turned the alarm off while still asleep.  It is always interesting to see what happens when I have to explain why I am late getting somewhere.  I have a couple stories about that, but I will reserve those for later.  It is always an odd feeling waking from the dream and realizing the alarm is actually real.  Yes, it is time to wake up.  Yes, the cat should be fed.  Yes, I really do need to get up and get ready for another day at work.  Before that reality sinks in, things do not seem quite real.  I am glad I do not experience that feeling very often.
