Another school semester will soon begin. If you’re in school, are you looking forward to starting classes? If you’re out of school, what do you miss about it — or are you glad those days are over?
I have told people before that if I could afford to be a professional student, I would never leave school. I enjoyed the classes I took, even though there were times I was one of the older students in the class, which could be both amusing and irritating at times.
Like the kid who walked up to a professor as the first exam of the quarter was being passed out and said, “I didn’t know we had a test today.” Or the two students who sat in front of me in one class who mutually decided that Joan of Arc was the wife of Noah. I am not kidding, either. Too bad the professor did not hear that conversation. I was somewhere between highly amused and flabbergasted.
Yes, I do miss being in school. I miss the campus and there were so many classes I wanted to take, but never got the opportunity. I would go back and take all those classes. I would not like the exams or the papers, sure, but those are parts of the academic life, and are small parts when I consider what all I learned while earning my degrees.
But, I am also enjoying life back in the work force. I think I would miss the other part wherever I was.
